Ms. Lydia Feazell

Orchestra Director Houston Public Schools

Lydia Feazell is a native Houstonian who spent five years in Fayetteville, West Virginia, teaching violin at Coda Mountain Academy’s Summer Camp. After returning to Houston, she was invited to continue her involvement with Coda by serving as a member of the Board of Directors.

Raised in a musical family, Lydia was inspired to pursue a career in music by her parents, Jimmy and Nancy Simon—both members of the Houston Symphony—as well as by her distinguished teachers, including Harold Hess, a student of Eugène Ysaÿe; concert violinist Fredell Lack; and Albert Meunzer, Associate Concertmaster of the Houston Symphony. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Houston and studied for two summers at the Meadowmount School of Music in New York.

Lydia began her teaching career in Klein ISD before moving to Spring Branch ISD, where she taught orchestra at Memorial Middle School for 20 years. Under her leadership, the orchestra was named Honor Orchestra of Texas four consecutive times during the 1990s. Though retired from public education, she remains active as a private lesson teacher, adjudicator, and clinician.

An accomplished violinist, Lydia is an honorary member of Mu Omicron and holds professional memberships in the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA), and Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA).
