Overview

The Grandfamily Program is a supportive space for grandparents and other relatives raising children, including great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends. In West Virginia, many caregivers are stepping into this role and often face challenges such as screen addiction, trauma, and the pressures of modern parenting.

A Community

Meeting twice a month, this free program gives caregivers the opportunity to connect with others who truly understand their situation. It is a place to share experiences, exchange practical advice, and sometimes simply take a breather. In addition to regular gatherings, occasional social events, cookouts, and outings offer time for fun and relaxation, allowing caregivers to recharge without worrying about the kids.

Educational workshops and guest speakers provide practical support on topics such as communicating with schools, internet safety, available community resources, and effective parenting strategies. Caregivers leave feeling encouraged, informed, and better equipped to navigate the ups and downs of raising grandchildren today.

Get Started

Joining the Grandfamily Program is simple, free, and flexible. Meetings are held twice a month on Friday mornings from 10:00am-12:00pm, and new participants are welcome to join at any time; simply fill out the application form on our enroll page. Whether you are newly raising a grandchild or have been doing so for years, you will find understanding faces, helpful resources, and a welcoming community ready to support you.
