Overview
Coda Grow is a specialized extension of the Coda Inspire after-school program, offering free enrichment in horticulture and nature studies through hands-on learning at Honeysuckle Hill Nature Discovery Center. While Grow is one of Inspire’s class offerings, it has developed its own identity through a unique partnership with Honeysuckle Hill. This partnership allows students to step beyond the classroom and into outdoor learning environments that bring lessons to life. Designed for students with limited access to green spaces, the program reconnects children with nature while building curiosity, responsibility, and confidence.
Learning Through Nature
Honeysuckle Hill features eight botanical gardens and hands-on exhibits in recycling, vermiculture, composting, arachnology, and more. These living classrooms extend the learning goals of Coda Inspire by allowing students to learn through direct experience as they explore ecosystems, care for plants, and develop an understanding of the natural world.
Coda Grow also reinforces Inspire’s academic focus by supporting growth in science, reading, and math. Students study a variety of scientific topics, participate in guided reading and creative story-writing activities, and strengthen math skills through real-world applications.
Growing Healthy Minds and Bodies
As an outdoor extension of the Inspire program, Coda Grow places a strong emphasis on wellness and connection. Time spent outdoors in shared, phone-free play supports students’ mental health, reduces stress and anxiety, and strengthens social bonds. Each field trip week begins with excitement as students run from the bus to the gardens, explore the bamboo maze and pond, and move freely through the space. For many, this is a rare and transformative outdoor experience.
By replacing passive screen time with active learning and meaningful connection, Coda Grow nurtures both academic growth and life skills. The program plants seeds of curiosity, resilience, and hope that continue to grow long after students return to the classroom.
Get Started
Coda Grow is open to students in grades 3–8 and meets after school from 3:30pm to 5:15pm. While Coda Inspire programs are offered at multiple locations, the Coda Grow class specifically takes place at Fayetteville PK–8. The program runs on Mondays for students in grades 3–4 and on Tuesdays for students in grades 5–8. Students from any school (public, private, or homeschool) are welcome to enroll. Throughout the semester, students also participate in field trips to Honeysuckle Hill Nature Discovery Center for hands-on learning in gardens and outdoor classrooms. (Please note that due to Fayette County Schools policy, private school and homeschool students are not permitted to ride the school bus; on field trip days to Honeysuckle Hill, those families will need to provide their own transportation). To get started, register for the Coda Inspire after-school program at Fayetteville PK–8 and select Coda Grow on the application form.
